Screening of the documentary film The Good Postman (2017, 1h 22min; Bulgarian language; English and Slovak subtitles; trailer: https://www.mamo.fi/the-good-postman/), by Tonislav Hristov, which follows the election for mayor of an almost deserted Bulgarian village on the Turkish border. On the edge of Europe, Great Dervent is the first stop on the path to freedom for thousands of refugees. The local postman believes that refugees can save and revive his dying town but, in his campaign, faces resistance from some of his fellow villagers. The documentary received several awards.
Free public event. Tickets were available at Kino Lumière before the screening from 4.30pm.

EMN Discussion Evening with Play by Nová scéna Theatre

19:00 / Theatre play ʻDomov (kde je ten tvoj?)ʼ (Home (Where is Yours?) (60min. without break; Slovak language with simultaneous English interpreting; trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XcTqF7e4PM) for youth based on the book “War, what if it were here?”, by Janne Teller, published in Denmark (2001), and since then re-adapted to more than 16 country-specific versions. Fictional story of two Slovaks who fled their war-torn homeland.
“Imagine what if you lose the roof over your head, your mum, your friends. Where would you go? As a 12-year old you and your family flee your country to a peaceful place. Nowhere and nevermore you will feel at home. Always and everywhere you will be only a foreigner. Someone took away your life and totally turned it upside down. Will you learn to live a new life?”
20.00 / Discussion with experts on how to talk about migration in an accurate and balanced way. Among discussants were: Janne Teller, Danish author of the book “War, what if it were here?”, director of the play Svetozár Sprušanský from Nová scéna Theatre in Slovakia, Richard Danziger, Director of International Organization for Migration (IOM) Regional Office for West and Central Africa in Senegal, and Bernard Priecel, Director of the Slovak Ministry of Interior’s Migration Office. Moderated by Zuzana Vatralova, Head of IOM Office in the Slovak Republic.
The discussion was held in English with provided interpreting to/from Slovak language.
